"I Will Resign" Raila, Kalonzo's Allies Lock Horns As Fresh Storm Rocks Azimio Ahead of 2027 Poll

Back-and-forth storm has rocked Raila Odinga's Azimio La Umoja One Kenya led outfit with former vice president Kalonzo Musyoka's key allies demanding Mr Odinga to handover the coalition's leadership to Wiper party boss.

The new push follows Mr Odinga's point-mentioned that he was reluctant at hanging the outfit's leadership boots as far as 2027 election is concerned.

Speaking in Oyugis, Homa Bay County last week, Odinga dismissed critics piling retirement pressure on his political career.

Kalonzo's close confidants have however confided that the quest to nominate the flag bearer as early as now would make the coalition to front a strong candidate to challenge President William Ruto in 2027 poll.

Kitui senator Enock Wambua informed that Wiper's quest to have Kalonzo anointed as Azimio leader doesn't intend to jumpstart internal wrangles in the coalition.

"We are not being combative and our call is not intended to kick up a conflict in coalition. It is an invitation for sober reflection on where we have come from, where we are and where we are heading" said Kitui senator Enock Wambua.

Makueni senator Dan Maanzo, Kalonzo's interpreted de-facto spokesperson, insisted Wiper party has supported Mr Odinga for three times it was time for Raila to replicate the same to Kalonzo in 2027.

"We have stood there times now with Mr Odinga and it is time now for him to also stand with us so that opposition remains united" Mr Maanzo stated.

However, Wiper party chairman Chariau Ali Mwakwere threatened to resign terming Mr Wambua and Mr Maanzo's demands fallacy and premature.

"I'm speaking not just as chairman of the party, but as also as a veteran politician in the country. The approach that Wiper is taking is fallacy. You cannot just sit and wait for somebody to anoint you. One must prove that he is actually popular beyond his borders" said Mr Mwakwere.

Among other politicians in Azimio coalition who had expressed interests to battle against Mr Ruto in 2027 include; Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua, Former Kakamega governor Wickliffe Oparanya, Former Mombasa governor Ali Joho and Democratic Action Party of Kenya party head Eugene Wamalwa.
