Sh213 millon Covid-19 Cash Sets off War of Words Between Bungoma DG and Wetang'ula

Bungoma deputy governor Prof. Charles Ngome has told off the area senator Moses Wetang'ula over Covid-19 money.

The national treasury had released Sh213 million to devolved unit to help contain the global pandemic coronavirus in 2020.

However, Wetang'ula came out guns blazing and blamed the county leadership led by governor Wycliffe Wangamati for embezzling the cash.

The Ford Kenya party leader has blamed the county leadership for embezzling the money through purchasing of a 20 litres Jerican at Sh10, 000 each.

"As a senate we fight for the money to reach the counties for development, however, my own governor and his henchmen are busy stealing the same money, when will we grow our economy, " Weta said during an interview on a local radio station.

Bungoma was featured negatively in the media for an alleged runaway corruption that involved Coronavirus funds.

"I can't keep quite when the money am fighting for to help our people through purchasing them facemasks and other materials to fight Corona is being misused, we need transparency and accountability in the public money," said Weta.

However, Prof Ngome who was speaking in Sirisia constituency on Tuesday, told off Wetang'ula and asked him to stop cheap propaganda over covid-19 cash.

"Our senator as been criss-crossing the county tell all and sundry how our administration as embezzled the Sh213 million meant to fight Covid-19, yet he hasn't asked us how we used the cash," he said.

Ngoma asked Weta to keep off their administration and concentrate in making sure treasury releases enough development funds to the county.

"The money he is always talking about was not embezzled but rather was put into good use, it was used to open up holding and isolation centres for covid positive patients or those who ignored the government directives," he noted.

He added, "As we speak almost Sh50 million is still in our accounts, we have not exhausted the cash contrary to Weta's assertions, he should stop cheap propaganda and concentrate in supporting this regime fullfil it's pledges to the voters,".

Ngome called on the county leadership to unite and ensure that the area is developed.
