Presidential elect, Hon. William Somoei Ruto was officially announced on Monday evening by IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati. However, four IEBC commissioners disowned the presidential election results with reasons that they are opaque, casting doubts on the last process before the declaration of the results.
The four officials who are Juliana Cherera, Cherop, Abonyo and Wanderi were appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta and sworn in by Chief Justice Martha Koome at the Supreme Court in Nairobi on September 14, 2021. They filled positions that were left vacant after the resignations of Roselyn Akombe, Margaret Mwachanya, Paul Kurgat and Connie Maina , who left office after the 2017 General Election.
The four commissioners are;
1. Juliana Cherera - She is the vice chairperson of the commission. She is a former chief staff to outgoing Mombasa governor, Ali Hassan Joho.
2. Irene Cherop - She is the wife to Tiaty MP Hon. Kam Ket. In the commission, she chairs the legal, compliance and political liaison committee and the leadership and integrity committee.
3. Justus Abonyo - He is the brother in law to Anyang' Nyong'o. He chairs the information and technology committee.
4. Francis Wanderi - He is the cousin to former Kieni MP, Kanini Kega. He chairs finance and supply chain management committee.
