One day after Dr William Ruto was declared the President-Elect by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati, the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition presidential candidate Raila Odinga has rejected the presidential results, saying that there were malpractices and illegalities in the process of producing the results.
According to the IEBC presidential results, Raila Odinga came second in the presidential race with 6,943,930 votes (48.85%).
Mr Odinga who asked his supporters to remain calm and peaceful, said that he is going to challenge the IEBC pronouncement in the Supreme Court.
He also questioned the integrity of the IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati, saying that Mr Chebukati is a dictator who manages the affairs of the election agency without taking into account the constitutional requirements.
Finally, the former Prime Minister also thanked Kenyans who voted for him on August 9th, and assured them that he will protect their interests.
Meanwhile, the election is not to divide us, it is to help us set up a new group of leaders who will advance the country. It is important that we embrace patience, peace, unity, love and solidarity as we continue to wait results from IEBC.
