Raila Odinga, the leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party and head of the Azimio La Umoja coalition, chose to abruptly cancel his planned Jamhuri Day demonstration.
The event was scheduled to take place at Jacaranda Grounds on the same day that President William Ruto was expected to lead other Kenyans in celebrating Jamhuri Day at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi. The agenda of the rally was described as a public consultation meeting with Kenyans.
Nevertheless, Raila canceled it, allegedly due to a variety of unavoidable engagements that would have taken place before and after the rally's scheduled day. The woman representative for Kirinyaga county, Njeri Maina, has a different perspective on this.
The politician has now said that the opposition leader felt a great deal of humiliation on that day before canceling the rally, according to remarks he made on Friday, September 9, during an exclusive interview at Citizen TV. She believed that on that particular day, the Jacaranda grounds may have seen a very low turnout.
The Jamhuri rally was canceled by Azimio because they knew they lacked the necessary support and that doing so would be embarrassing, according to Hon. Njeri Maina.
