Police have arrested a male politician who owns a bar in Maragua for allegedly conspiring with his two female employee to rob off KSH.283,000 from a reveller.[Photo Courtesy]
Murang'a Sub-county police commander Alexander Shikondi three individuals and unidentified prostitute allegedly executed the robbery on April 4, 2022. The suspects were picked from the politician's bar by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations in Thayu estate.
The politician who is contesting for an MCA seat as independent candidate was accused by Paul Kamau Mwaura, 46, through OB number 35 of April 11, 2022 at Maragua police station. Police reports indicates that the politician conspired with the three to steal Mr Mwaura's money from his M-Pesa and sent it their playbill and personal number.
The politician also faces charges on money laundering after confirming the money send to his playbill as part of his business. According to a file seen at Maragua police station, Mr Mwaura had sold a parcel of land and he had visited the bar to 'thank himself' for succeeding in the sale.
The detectives retrieved all the Mpesa statements from his phone, suspects phone number and books of account that directed them to the culprits. Concerning how they got his pin, it is believed that the bar has CCTV cameras and they zoomed him while he was paying for a previous alcohol. They laced his alcohol with sedatives and that is how they were able to execute the robbery.
