Currently, people are only considering two political giants, Senator Ochilo Ayako and former MP John Pesa, as the key contenders for the Migori Gubernatorial seat come 2022 General Elections. However, the entry of Uriri Member of Parliament Mark Ogolla Nyamita into the race to succeed Governor Obado complicates the already complex political matrix in the county.
The entry of Nyamita into the gubernatorial race will affect John Pesa the most, given that the former Migori Constituency MP was hoping that 2022 will be his best shot for the gubernatorial race. Nyamita is likely to grab Pesa' supporters now that he is currently serving and can easily influence voters, thanks to the resources he has at his disposal.
Hon. Ochilo Ayacko is also likely to be affected by MP Nyamita's entry into the gubernatorial race. This is mainly because of the current state of affairs in the county. Due to the constant disagreement between the senator and Governor Obado, the current governor is likely to support Ochilo's competitors.
Besides, in 2013, there was a pact between Obado and Nyamita that Nyamita would support Obado for his tenure in the gubernatorial race. If Obado's tenure ends, he is like to support Nyamita for the county's top job.
With Hon Otieno Dalmas going back to that vie for the Rongo Parliamentary seat, this is also likely to give Nyamite an upper hand to clinch the top county seat.
Besides the other advantages over other candidates, Nyamite also has a tremendous track record in Migori county during his time as the Member of Parliament, which might convince voters to elect him into office.
