Speculations spark the country after Trade and Industries cabinet secretary Moses Kuria and Agriculture Cabinet Secretary differ over government directive with barely hundred days in their respective offices.
Speaking during the Council of Governors meeting, the Agriculture CS, Mithika Linthuri disregarded his counter part Moses Kuria's remarks on the importation order that required all farmers to sell their stock within 72 hours.
“I am the custodian of how much food we need and how much is the deficit. Hold your horses because I want to give you a position that is ready to defend. I will give a more comprehensive report on the national food status at a later date when I have all the data. Relax, you will have food,” said the CS.
Linthiri's remarks comes three days after Kuria issued an order to the farmers to sell their hoarded maize within 72 hours or compete with 10 million bags to be released to the market.
Kuria is still on the receiving end over the importation of Genetically Modified Food(GMO) with many opposing the move. However the importation was dealt a big blow as High court temporarily suspended the importation.
