Although political analysts have been alleging that Deputy President William Ruto is currently the only Presidential aspirant who can manage to Silence Raila Odinga, there is another "unseen" force who can potentially end Raila's political journey.
For the first time in history of Kenyan politics, the ODM Party leader has received competition for the party's presidential ticket. Business tycoon Jimi Wanjigi has declared his 2022 Presidential bid, challenging Raila to a free and fair nominations.
Wanjigi has been going round the country popularizing the Party and his ambitions calling for new liberation. He has been on Raila's neck claiming that the leader has turned ODM into a one-man-show where all decisions revolve around him.
Although the businessman is not as popular as Raila is, his influence in the party cannot be ignored. The tycoon has for along time been on the party's drawing board making key strategies including organizing campaigns for Raila on his previous attempts.
Former Kakamega County Senator Dr Boni Khalwale once revealed that Wanjigi was ODM's political mastermind and much of the party's successes were achieved through him. He therefore cautioned against despising his political influence adding that he is well versed on what Wanjigi is capable of.
Wanjigi had earlier on alleged plans by the Party to give Raila a direct nomination. He however affirmed that he will be unbowed adding that he is a lifetime member of ODM and there deserves equal chance just like any other party member. He challenged Raila to support him if he floors him in the nominations as he pledged his support to the leader in case he defeats him fairly.
If Wanjigi who has his roots from the Mt Kenya region manages to mobilize the region behind him, he might win the party's nominations owing to the huge number of voters in the region. In addition, most Kenyans are tired of politicians who have stayed in politics for along time, something which might work in favor of Wanjigi.
This might explain why Raila is yet to officially announce his 2022 candidature pending nominations.
