Deputy president Dr William Ruto has been dealt a blow after 2022 Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) senatorial aspirant in Murang'a Pius Kinuthia revealed what Mt Kenya residents say about former prime minister Raila Odinga.
This follows after Kinuthia quipped that the ground in the region had changed their attitude towards Raila, and majority of the residents had started liking the ODM chief.
While appeared on TV 47 Kenya Live show, on Wednesday morning, the senatorial hopeful disclosed that he got wind of the developments when he interacted with the locals, especially in Murang'a. In his observation, they informed him that they would support Raila even though their leadership had branding him a devil in the past.
According to Kinuthia, the former prime minister would enhance the prices of agricultural products like coffee, tea and milk if he forms government in 2022.
"Ruto's supporters in Mt Kenya speak so loudly but I have been to the ground and people are saying that this person who we were told is a devil (Raila) is the one who will fix our tea and milk prices," said Kinuthia.
However, despite the politician alleging that the crowd had started expressing their affection for Raila, the converse could be true. This is because a good number of elected leaders are ditching Kieleweke-cum-handshake camp for Dr Ruto-led Hustler Nation faction ahead of 2022 general election.
This comes as politicians prepare themselves for 2022 general elections. Since the Incumbent president Uhuru Kenyatta is retiring, politicians in Mt Kenya region are shopping around for the best faction to join for their own survival. Majority have decided to associate themselves with Dr Ruto, who they feel has a chance of forming the next government.
