Embakasi East Member of Parliament Hon. Babu Owino has announced plans to cushion his constituents who have lost their jobs due to Covid-19 pandemic. The ravaging pandemic has forced the government to either impose lockdown or curfew on Kenyans, a move that has rendered many jobless.
In his post on social media, Hon. Babu Owino said that he is planning to support those affected by the protocols particularly in entertainment sector. He also said that many people in restaurants and entertainment joints have suffered most since the government initiated control measures to curb the spread of Coronavirus.
Among those hit hard according to the ODM legislator are; waiters, waitresses, cooks, bouncers and disc jockeys. He added that the lives of these thousands and their families are negatively affected.
"These Kenyans are now unable to feed their families. So many breadwinners are now jobless. Homes are breaking apart due to financial strain. Suicide rates among young men is higher than it has ever been,"said Owino.
While announcing his rescue plans, the former students leader at the University of Nairobi said that the program is aimed at offering financial support to affected people on monthly basis.
"It is because of this that I am in the process of putting in place a financial support program that will put money in the pockets of Embakasi East entertainment workers every month."
The mentioned people are requested to visit the constituency offices located in Donholm armed with their national identity cards during working hours every Monday to Friday.
After submissions, his office will then process the applications and kick off the support program as soon as possible.
