Musalia Mudavadi's Earthquake and its Political Effects

Musalia Mudavadi's much-awaited earthquake finally happened and claimed what it could. There were noticeable shifts in the tectonic plates of the Mount Kenya political region in many ways. It is with no doubt that Mount Kenya's expectation bag the running mate position within Deputy President William Ruto's Government has faded drastically. The emergence of Mr. Musalia Mudavadi into the UDA circle has dwindled prospects for Central Kenya leaders close to DP Ruto from claiming that position. The former Deputy Prime Minister will most likely occupy that position owing to his political experience compared to his Mount Kenya friends. Some Mount Kenya leaders have already started giving their reactions on the issue.

The Kirinyaga County Woman Member of the National Assembly, madam Purity Ngirici has said that it appears like Central Kenya will be sidelined from the coming government if one of their own is not in the executive. She emphasized that the vote-rich region will only vote for that candidate who will assure them the Deputy president position. While speaking in Murang'a county, Mr. Peter Kenneth said that the region has been keen to see how DP Ruto treats them. He said that picking an outsider will make the region vulnerable.

In the same measure, western region leaders such as the Matung'u member of parliament have defected from the party citing miscalculations on the side of Musalia Mudavadi. The Central Organization of Trade Unions boss Mr. Francis Atwoli has termed Mr. Mudavadi's move inconsequential. On the other side, his former coalition members have termed his action as betrayal.
