The distribution of the three new constituencies in Uasin Gishu county as proposed by the BBI report, seems to have awaken the wrath of political leaders from the agricultural rich county, after one of the MPs allied to DP Ruto came out to lash out at the process.
Speaking on Saturday at a function in the county, the furious Ruto allied legislator said they have joined hands with all the leaders in Uasin Gishu county to oppose the new boundaries and have written to the Interior CS Fred Matiang'i protesting of the same.
"We cannot allow some individuals sitting down in Nairobi to decide on the boundaries of the new constituencies in this county without involving its leaders. Led by our Governor Mandago, we as Uasin Gishu leaders have all disagreed with the proposed boundaries and we have all written to CS Matiang'i informing him of the same," he said.
The furious reactions were evoked by alleged plans to have Eldoret Town constituency created, a move that was not welcomed by most of the county leaders and residents.
According to most of them, the tradition were each constituency had a share of the town should be maintained and that any plans to block other constituencies from having their share of the town will not be tolerated.
"Even if we want a Town constituency, we are the ones going to decide. That does not mean that Eldoret town constituency will have a name of somebody, its the residents who are going to decide on that," added Kositany.
This comes just days after a section of a business community from the town demanded for a creation of Eldoret town constituency, saying this will ensure they have services near them since it is always costly to move out of town looking for services in the outskirts.
Most locals have however, objected the move, with others saying the government is hellbent in ensuring they loose a grip of their highly valued 'city of champions'
