A free, fair, and credible election is being prepared, with just 40 days till the August elections, by the independent election and borders commission.
The electron body announced its intention to adopt the electronic register during a meeting with the presidential contenders held today in Nairobi. According to Marjan Hussein, the chief executive officer of the IEBC, the organization would validate voters on August 9 using biometrics and physical voter registration lists.
Marian further pointed out that the physical register is vulnerable to fraud, whereas the computerized system stores information about people who have voted and issues an alert if a voter returns to cast another ballot. The system will keep track of the number of votes cast. However, as there are some situations where the electronic would not be appropriate, the usage of the two registers was about to occur.
The commission is now focused on getting ready for the elections in August now that the registration issue has been resolved.
