Sister Of Ex-Powerful Minister Who Dumped Raila For Ruto Still Languishing In The Cold

She was a surprise pick for a running mate by the then Mombasa County Governor hopeful, Suleiman Shahbal. But a few weeks later, she decamped from Raila Odinga-led ODM for the then Deputy President William Ruto's UDA party.

Shahbal would go on to shelve his gubernatorial ambitions and ended up being nominated to the East Africa Legislative Assembly ( EALA) as an MP.

As for Selina, her move to ditch Raila for Dr Ruto has proved to be politically suicidal. Today, the former Deputy County Commissioner is still languishing in the cold having failed to be considered for a top position in the Ruto adminstration.

When the seasoned adminstrator decided to quit her DCC position to make a huge plunge into the murky world of politics, many expected her to fit into the oversize political shoes of her late brother, Emmanuel Karissa Maitha.

The late Maitha was a political giant during his heydays. In the first government of President Mwai Kibaki, the then Kisauni MP served as Tourism and Information cabinet minister. But his career was cut short in 2004 when he suddenly died in Germany during an official duty.

But with her sister struggling to make an impression in the country's political stage, the Maitha family may not rise again any time soon. But will Ruto consider Selina for any top government job soon? Or is it the end of the road for her?
