He has been very vocal on the region's involvement in the presidential contest and has announced that he will be naming the kingpin who will negotiate for the region at the national level on December 31.
On Sunday, he was among area leaders who met at the Golf Hotel in Kakamega, where it was decided that he leads the community in its bid to either form or be part of the next government.
He announced that the region will remain united and has already decided on the route it will be taking, adding that there will be no division on who the region will support for the presidency going forward.
"As Western Kenya we are going to move towards one direction and there are no doubts about that. We are united and we are have a position and a stand and we know where we are going," he said.
The remark comes as bad news for Deputy President William Ruto, who has been eyeing a portion of the vote and who his remarks now suggest will not get even a portion of the Luhya vote next year.
The same was backed by some of the resolutions that were made by the present leaders; that the region will unanimously negotiate with ODM leader Raila Odinga, one of the leading front runners.
"Western region community will speak in one voice and will not entertain any leader who will not work with the others towards firming the next government," read the resolutions in part, as was read by Vihiga governor Wilberforce Otichilo.
The remark came only a week after Atwoli, while accompanying Raila to Bungoma County, reiterated his stand that Ruto is only wasting his time campaigning as he will not be the next President.
He spoke while explaining his earlier remarks that Ruto will not even be on the ballot, making it clear that he never many that the DP will not be around to participate but only meant that he will lose.
