Peris Tobiko, a Member of Parliament (MP) from Kajiado East, has formally abandoned the Jubilee party in favor of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Tobiko, who has been debunking allegations that she was planning to leave Jubilee for the previous two weeks, made her political move today when she hosted the Deputy President at her Ilpplosat house in Kajiado East Constituency.
Many locals were taken aback when the Mp asked her supporters to register with UDA, which came as a surprise to many who had been hearing about her plans to defect.
Tobiko, who is in her second term as a member of parliament, would run for governor in 2022, stating that she is prepared to face other candidates in the nominations.
"I did not join UDA in the hopes of receiving a direct nomination ticket. I am here, ready to compete against other candidates vying for the same ticket on the ballot. I am fully prepared, and I will not be frightened by anyone who is out to question my association with any party," she stated.
She is well-known as a close associate of President Uhuru Kenyatta and a supporter of handshake politics.
Her departure came as a surprise and stunner to many who assumed it was simply political speculations, despite her prior statement that she is consulting her constituency on her next political move.
