Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) Director-General Brig (Rtd) John Waweru has been sent on compulsory leave, Wildlife Secretary Erastus Kanga replaces him in acting capacity.Brig (Rtd) Waweru was sent on compulsory leave moments after attending the handing over ceremony of Principal Secretary to the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife.
KWS submitted to the Committee a raft of recommendations among them eviction of illegal encroachers, development of road network in the reserve, demarcation of reserve boundary, adequate funding from Kitui County Government and development of infrastructure such as gates, security bases and tourism facilities.
KWS D.G, Brig. (Rtd) John Waweru had attended the WRTI 20th Graduation Ceremony 2022 .He congratulated Wildlife Research and Training Institute @wrtikenya on achieving significant milestones noting that WRTI and KWS have a symbiotic partnership where WRTI conducts wildlife research that informs KWS in decisions regarding Wildlife conservation.
In his closing remarks, he wished the graduates well as they begin the next phase of their life and thanked their sponsors, parents, and guardians for their support.
