Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 revealed the main reason why Mt Kenya Region and People of Nyanza have never shared the same ideologies in terms of politics.
Speaking at an online platform Interview, The Tackle hosted by Gerald Bitok, Moses Kuria shed some light why the Mt Kenya region especially the Kikuyu have an issue in voting for Raila Odinga. Kuria revealed the hate for Raila goes back to 1969 during the Mzee Kenyatta regime.
According to Moses Kuria, during Mzee Kenyatta’s ruling, there were rumors that Oginga Odinga wa planning to overthrow Mzee a move that started the rivalry between the two communities.
After the rumors that the man from the lakeside was planning to take over government, Kikuyu elders from Muranga and Nyeri met at a sacred place and took a vow through participating in oath taking known as ‘Muma’. The oath was considered as a way of protecting Mzee Kenyatta’s government and also a promise that the region will never support any candidate from the lakeside.
Since then, it is believed that the oath, Muma is still alive hence the reason why Mt Kenya region finds it hard to support Raila Odinga. In addition, Raila has been blamed for betraying leaders such as late President Mzee Moi and other leaders inculding former president Mwai Kibaki.
