Big win for Raila as Mt Kenya top guns back his bid

Following the full backing of Mt Kenya East bigwigs, ODM leader Raila Odinga won big in his bid to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022.

Governors Kiraitu Murungi of Meru, Martin Wambora of Embu, and Muthomi Njuki of (Tharaka Nithi).

Francis Kimemia (Nyandarua), Ndiritu Muriithi (Laikipia), Anne Kananu (Nairobi), and Caroline Karugu (Nairobi) joined them (Nyeri deputy governor).

The leaders agreed to support Raila till the finish, noting that he has the experience and is dedicated to resolving issues that impact Kenyans.

Leaders overwhelmingly approved Raila's bid in a memorandum read by former Education PS Kilemi Mwiria.

Raila's dedication to devolution, unity among leaders, and plan to develop markets for miraa and other agricultural produce were noted as examples.

They tasked him with resolving issues such as a lack of markets, insufficient infrastructure, insecurity, drought, and boundary conflicts.

The leaders of the region have stated that they wish to "back a candidate who is committed to a united and thriving Kenya."

"We've decided to back Raila as the future president." Mwiria stated, "His working relationship with President Kenyatta has brought stability to the country."

“We also agree with his vision of shared prosperity and inclusion. We think it's doable because Raila is a man who follows through on his promises."

Delegates at the gathering at Chuka University argued for the former Prime Minister to address a variety of concerns.

In the face-off with Deputy President William Ruto, he was advised to select Agriculture CS Peter Munya as his running mate.

Raila was requested to consider selecting the outgoing Embu governor if he forms the next government, while he also sought to negotiate a truce between the CS and Kiraitu.

The politics of the Mt Kenya East versus Mt Kenya West divide came up during the conference as well. Eastern leaders have stated that they no longer want to be carried on the shoulders of the West.

They "want to be recognized as they have been valued by others," Kiraitu said, adding that they would not look down on anyone.

"We want to let our brethren on the other side [the West] know that we have reached adulthood." He said, "Get us off your backs so we can walk side by side."

The leaders of Mt Kenya East also requested the establishment of an Mt Kenya Development Authority.

Raila was requested to reconsider the BBI's idea of one guy, one vote, and one penny.

Elders, youth, MCAs, and previous MPs from the Njuri Ncheke council were in attendance.

The host, Njuki, encouraged the ODM leader to campaign freely in the region, guaranteeing him support, unlike in 2013 and 2017.

"It is widely known that Raila has suffered as a result of the incitement leveled against him since 2002. I'm glad to be here today to tell you that the door is open for you."

"A large number of people have arrived, and we have seen them. There is, nevertheless, a distinction. That is why we will stand by your side. "Don't forget about us," remarked the governor.

“As my colleagues have stated, we are disadvantaged because no project has ever been completed and is being used as a begging tool during elections,” Njuki continued.

"There is a God's moment and a people's moment," Munya explained. Raila's is unmistakable. There are indications. Those who do not believe should come and join us."

"Those who claimed to have ascended the mountain have since realized they were duped." Raila was correct. We're not going anywhere. "He'll take us wherever we want to go," said the CS.

"It's difficult to preach to the converted," Kiraitu continued. Mt Kenya East has been recognized by Azimio la Umoja. There are numerous reasons for us to remain united."

"We welcome Raila to Mt Kenya East," Wambora remarked. We've heard a lot of stories and aren't concerned about them being used to bragging around here."

"As Mt Kenya East, we will collaborate with you from now on." We'll be visiting Mt Kenya West. We'll all be in Nairobi for the summit. Wambora stated, "I want to assure you of our unwavering support."

"If there is anyone who knows how to make government, it is Raila," Kimemia remarked. Raila Odinga, if there is anyone who has a positive vision for Kenya, it is him."

"We'll assist you in reviving the economy." He is a capable leader and a professional. With him, Kenya is in good hands."

"In 2022, we will choose between a leader and a merchant," Kieni MP Kanini Kega remarked.

Are you looking for a leader or a dealer? We need a leader who is physically present."

Raila expressed gratitude for the support and stated that he has worked up measures to address some of the concerns that had been brought to his attention.

"We had a long conversation with Munya about agricultural changes. "On those subjects, we have a clear position," the ODM leader added.

Raila also promised to deal with livestock rustling and address concerns about the consequences of the drought in the area.

"To address food production difficulties, we will build Grand Falls Gitonga." He went on to say, "We will control the water to avoid floods in Garissa."

The ODM leader also discussed the history of the Azimio la Umoja effort, stating that the region will not be forgotten because it provided the majority of the country's pre-independence heroes.

"To cope with these difficulties, we must first be together." Azimio la Umoja has come up with this concept. We will be able to move this country in the direction we desire. Raila stated, "Everything policies are there."

Former Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti says the region's new party, the Devolution Empowerment Party (previously RBK), had agreed to collaborate with ODM.

"On the bus, we decided that Raila was what we wanted. There is a reason for this. We can't just drop kids off at school and then hand them wheelbarrows. We want them to obtain meaningful careers if they go to school," he said.

“It appears you are developing a very powerful team like the one that was in the Kibaki administration,” Siaya Senator James Orengo, who accompanied Raila, stated. We're heading somewhere, if you look at the team Raila is putting together."

"I guarantee you, Nyeri is behind you," Karugu added. Women have called me today to express their support for you since you have promised us peace and unity."

Mt Kenya, according to Muriithi, contains ten counties whose citizens place high importance on employment. "Work provides us with a sense of worth. The value of our economy is Sh27 billion dollars... greater than 34 African countries combined... I'm surprised that someone wants to put a wheelbarrow in that economy."
