Opinion: Reasons Why Raila Odinga Must Abandon BBI and Handshake and What He Should Do Instead

Raila Odinga who is the Odm Party Chief has been in a handshake for now 3 years with president Uhuru Kenyatta. They went ahead and crafted the BBI which has been stopped by the high court judges. The BBI steering committee led by Junet Mohamed and Dennis Waweru stated that they will head to the court of appeal to appeal the ruling.

But do you think it's wise for Raila Odinga and his close allies to continue fighting the High Court ruling? In my considered opinion, I strongly believe that Raila Odinga must abandon the BBI process and instead focus on the 2022 politics.

As much as the handshake was good for Raila Odinga because it has tamed the deputy president by denying him the automatic support of the state machinery, I believe it is time for Raila Odinga to leave the handshake because of the following reasons.

Raila Odinga entered the handshake with the support of all his supporters but right now some of his supporters have left. They are questioning whether the BBI has their interests given the mere fact that many constituencies in the BBI are proposed to go to the larger Mt Kenya region as compared to those going to Luo Nyanza.

Secondly, the BBI process has been delayed severally by the president something that many supporters of Raila Odinga are questioning whether president Uhuru really is for the document. President Uhuru had not been seen campaigning for the BBI the way he ought to be doing.

Lastly, Raila Odinga has lost the power to question the actions of the government because he is in bed with it. Kenyans believe that the economic failures of the government are associated with both Uhuru and Raila because he abandoned his role as the leader of opposition and did a handshake.

For the sake of his 2022 presidential ambitions, Raila Odinga must abandon the BBI and handshake before its too late. I don't know what you think but that's my take. Remember to click the follow button and share this article.
