ODM SG Edwin Sifuna Address The Problems of Leaders With Criminal Records Who Wish To Run For Office

ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna has addressed the problem of leaders with criminal records who wish to run for office on ODM ballots in the 2022 general election.

Speaking on Thursday, Sifuna stated that the ODM will not prevent anyone from running for various seats in 2022, regardless of whether they are criminals, corrupt, or murderers, and that as long as the court has not barred him, he/she will be eligible for an ODM ticket.

He did, however, put the ball in the hands of the voters to make the correct option on the ballot.

"The party cannot lock someone out unless the court has barred them.

"So, if you see someone has bad morals go to the ballot and make sure that even though one was given a party ticket, they cannot get the position," he highlighted.

Sifuna advised individuals vying for party tickets to avoid bothering party officials and instead speak with constituents in the areas where they want to be elected, as they are the ones who make the decision.

“I have stopped meeting with aspirants in my office and taking photos as aspirants are using the photos to intimidate their rivals,” he stated, warning against those who misuse the photos and lie about fake endorsements.
