The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has again moved to crack another whip on and stop impeached public officials from contesting for any elective seat in the August and has instructed returning officers not to clear such candidates unless a court order compels them to process their nomination papers. The declaration was that any leader who has been convicted or impeached should not run for any elective seat. Some of the leaders who have faced a blow are Mike Sonko who has declared his interest for the county seat boss in Mombasa.
The High Court restrained IEBC from processing his papers. The petition was filed by several civil societies like Haki Yetu, Kituo cha Sheria and Transparency International. Another aspirant with similar case is Waititu and they are to be blocked from the race. However Mike Sonko has reacted to this and he has claimed if there is a special constitution for Uhuru and Ruto while he is to be blocked from the race.
