Things Are Getting Worse On Ruto's Side As His Top Allies Kicked Out In Fresh Committees Purge

Allies of Deputy President William Ruto have been kicked out of leadership positions in several House committees.

Catherine Waruguru, a member of the Laikipia Woman MPs, was dismissed from the Committee on Agriculture and Livestock, where she also served as Vice-Chairperson.

William Kipkemoi Kisang, MP for Marakwet West, has been dismissed of his duties as chairman of the Committee on Information, Communication, and Technology.

Katoo Ole Metito, a Kajiado South MP who also served as the chairperson of the Committee on Defence and Foreign Relations, has been discharged.

The chairperson of the Environment and Natural Resources committee has been taken from Maara MP Japhet Kareke Mbiuki.

Speaker of the National Assembly, Justin Muturi, told MPs on Wednesday that the members were given the opportunity to explain themselves before being removed.

"I am satisfied that the process leading to the discharge meets the conditions laid out in Standing Order 176," Muturi said after reviewing the documentation through which the Jubilee Party submitted the decision to release the stated members.

"This is because the Majority Party Whip had duly notified each of the six members of their intended discharge through notices dated January 17, 2022, and given them time to react."

The adjustments took effect on February 2, 2022, according to him.
