Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition MPs are currently pushing for the introduction of the office of opposition leader which is funded by the government. The MPs want the amendment of the 2010 constitution so that the opposition leader can have office and become a member of the Parliament. The opposition leader should also have a deputy who can assist him according to those legislatures.
Now some Ruto's allies have also supported the move citing it as a good idea that can put the government on checks. According to UDA chairman Johnson Muthama, he fully support the idea of introducing the position of the opposition leader in the Constitution. He said that president Ruto also wants a strong opposition to put him on checks. This is according to the report of the Tuko.co.ke this morning.
Johnson Muthama vied for Machakos gubernatorial seat on UDA which is associated with president William Ruto but lost to Wavinya Ndeti. Governor Wavinya Ndeti on the other hand vied on Wiper party of Kalonzo Musyoka which is under the umbrella of Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition led by Raila Odinga.
The former Machakos Senator has now urged the Kenya Kwanza MPs to support the move to have office of the opposition leader and deputy opposition leader in the Constitution. If this move goes through then Raila Odinga will become a member of the Parliament as the opposition leader and have office which funded by the government
