Kakamega Gubernatorial Race Takes A New Shape

The Kakamega governorship election takes a new turn following the blessings of the luhyia elders on a candidate related to Deputy President Hon. William Ruto.

Kakamega County governor's seat has attracted a number of prominent contenders seeking to succeed Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, who is serving his final term.

The names of Dr. Bonny Khalwale, a former Kakamega senator, Senator Cleophas Malala, Ayubu Savula, Fernandes Barasa, and Hon. Kutima, the current deputy governor, are among the prominent names on the August ballot.

Kakamega county is one of four Luhyia counties that support Mudavadi as their regional leader, whom they believe should offer them political direction on western county leadership.

However, former Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi appears to be losing her hold on regional politics. The ANC party leader, Hon. Musalia Mudavadi, has a candidate in Kakamega county, Hon. Cleophas Malala, who is currently the county's senator. Malala is due to face the former Kakamega lawmaker and KETRACO CEO.

Today, Hon. Bonny Khalwale, a former Kakamega senator running on the UDA ticket, received the blessings of the Butsotso elders for his ambition to become Kakamega county governor. During political events, the elderly often used their press appearances to beg for peace. The Hon. Bonny Khalwale, a former senator, confirmed this on Twitter.

Dr. Khalwale, a seasoned politician, has made numerous attempts to popularize the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party and its deputy president, Hon. Dr. William Ruto.
