Judge throws out IEBC rules on clearing of poll hopefuls

Chebukati has suffered a major blow few days after he disqualified several presidential candidates who include Wanjigi as well Ekuru Aukot. According to High Court Judge Anthony Mrima, it's evident the requirement for presidential candidates to provide a list of supporters is illegal, null and void.

Here is a link:

According to Justice Anthony Mrima, the regulations that were enacted in 2012 and amended in 2017 are illegal null and void. According to Justice Anthony Mrima, the law on providing list of supporters is illegal for it's breaching the law on data protection as in the constitution.

This means Chebukati might be forced to bring in more Presidential candidates whom he disqualified on the basis of list of supporters. However as we move into the August 9th polls, let's wait and see of what unfolds for it's clear we truly live in interesting times.

It's therefore a major blow to Chebukati for it's clear he disqualified many candidates and moved on to prepare for only four Candidates. It's already clear that at the moment, the case has favored most of the disqualified candidates who might force the commission to be allowed into the ballot.
