Light Moment Among MPs As MP Salasya Cracks Up Parliament With ''Madam Speaker Sir'' Salutation

Mumias East parliamentarian Peter Salasya on Wednesday amused the assembly by repeatedly addressing deputy speaker Gladys Shollei as "Madam Speaker sir."

Other members of Parliament corrected him when he said "madam speaker." He immediately responded by saying that he will ultimately grow used to it.

"Madam Speaker, pole pole ndio napata," he said.(Madam Speaker, with practice, I'll get it right.)

The newly elected youthful MP campaigned on issues affecting his Mumia East constituency.

One of the most pressing was the lack of electricity in parts of his constituent areas, which he stated needed to be remedied immediately so that Mumias women could watch him on TV.

The deputy speaker maintained a solemn expression throughout, while other members of the House burst out laughing.

Salasya is one of the 13th Parliament's youngest members, elected in the general election on August 9.

At the polls, 17 young lawmakers defied the odds and were elected to Parliament.

Salasya is well-known for his excellent sense of comedy.
