Chaos Erupt In Parliament As Some Members Block Kimunya To Move His Amendments

Mayhem erupted in the National Assembly after Members of Parliament opposed to the Political Parties (Amendment) Bill 2021 disturbed the session and roughed up the Majority Leader, Amos Kimunya.

The violent altercations erupted when Kimunya took to the floor to move an amendment to the Bill.Kimunya, who is likewise the Kipipiri MP, sponsored the Bill.

During the Wednesday, January 5, session Speaker Jessica Mbalu, had to intervene after MPs moved too close and begun assaulting Kimunya.

The Sergeants at Arms were ordered by the session Speaker to protect Kimunya so that he can move his amendments.

Political parties currently have until April 2022, to submit coalition agreements documents to the registrar of political parties after parliament adopted an amendment by Kimunya proposing that parties submit coalition agreements to the Office of The Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) four months to elections.

MPs had before dismissed a prior amendment by Garissa Town MP Aden Duale on the deletion of the clause to have a coalition political party present its pact six months to election. Below is the video link;
