Mount Kenya is a vote-rich region. The region has a large population and massive registered voters. Presidential contenders have shifted their focus in the region. Presidential aspirants have toured the region in the last month or held consultative discussion with leaders from the region. Some of them includes deputy president William Ruto, Musalia Mudavadi, Kalonzo Musyoka, Raila Odinga, Alfred Mutua and Justin Muturi.
In this week alone, deputy president William Ruto hosted 200 MCAs from the region and Kiambu grassroot leaders. The leaders were hosted at his official residence in Karen. The deputy president popularized his 2022 presidential bid through his famous bottom-up economic model. Various leaders attended the meeting led by Kiambu women representative Hon. Gathoni Wamuchomba.
ODM party leader Raila Odinga also toured the region last week for a burial ceremony. He was warmly welcomed by Nyeri leaders led by Kieni member of parliament Hon. Kanini Kega. He was later hosted by the area member of parliament at his rural home. Raila Odinga revisited his 2002 relationship with former president Mwai Kibaki.
ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi visited the region this weekend for a two-day tour. He was welcomed by Nakuru leaders led by Governor Lee Kinyanjui. He also met Nakuru MCAs and 500 representative from the county. He attended two church services and held two rallies in the county.
Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has visited the region twice in the last one month. He attended a fundraising ceremony in Nyandarua county with other local leaders led by Governor Francis Kimemia and senator Mwangi Githiomi. He also attended a church service in Muranga and met grassroots leaders from the county.
Machakos governor Alfred Mutua has also toured the region to popularize his 2022 presidential bid. He visited three governors from the region and hosted Muranga Maendeleo Chapchap leaders for.a consultative discussion. National speaker Justin Muturi has also intensified his tour in the region since his coronation. He has toured Meru, Embu, Muranga and Tharaka Nithi counties.
