How Regional Politics Could Affect Mukhisa Kituyi's State House Dream

Mukhisa Kituyi was yesterday given a green light by elders from Western Kenya to vie for the presidential seat in next year's general elections. What surprised many was the absence of key western Kenya political leaders in the event. Elected Governors, MPs, and Senators kept off from the event.

Leaders have been working to solidify their backyard votes before embarking on national campaigns. And this has always involved unifying their regions. It is even seen in the Mount Kenya region where Martha Karua was nominated as the interim Mount Kenya region spokesperson. Mukhisa Kituyi has not yet reached out to the local leaders to unite behind him. And being the majority did not attend his much-hyped event, is just a sign of disunity in his backyard.

National Leaders Present in Mukhisa Kituyi's Event

Mukhisa Kituyi was accompanied by his coalition partners including Martha Karua and Governor Kivutha kibwana. Kivutha Kibwana advised Mukhisa Kituyi to up his game on local politics and more so try to reach out to the local leaders like Musalia Mudavadi. The Makueni Governor maintained regional politics will be key in next year's presidential elections
