CHAMA CHA MASHINANI party led by Isaac Ruto has announced that it will hold the last rally on August 6 at Bomet Green Stadium ahead of the August 9 general election. Mr Ruto has accused Prof Barchok of seeking to deny him the use of Bomet Green stadium, though he had booked and paid for it and secured a police permit. At the same time, Governor Barchok Claims to have booked the same arena and secured a permit for its Final rally on August 6.
“CCM applied a month ago to use the stadium. We paid Sh50,000 to the county government and were issued with a receipt by the revenue department. We notified the police and secured a permit for the rally slated for Saturday, as required in law,” Mr Albert Kochei, CCM secretary-general, told journalists.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) had been informed about the event by CCM in its calendar for rallies, according to Mr. Kochei, who had the receipts and the police permission on exhibit. The event had been combined with that of UDA and approved by both parties.
The front-runners in the contest for governor are Mr. Ruto, the leader of the Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM), and Governor Barchok, the UDA party's flag bearer. Additionally, there is Mr. Benard Mutai of the Amani National Congress (ANC). William Ruto, the Kenyan Kwanza presidential candidate, is supported by both Mr. Ruto and Deputy President Barchok.
