Former United Democratic Alliance vice-chairman Kipruto Arap Kirwa now believes that former Tharaka Nithi Senator Professor Kithure Kindiki deserves a more important cabinet position than the CS for Interior offered by President William Ruto.
Kirwa, who switched from Ruto's United Democratic Alliance and the Kenya Kwanza Alliance to Raila Odinga's Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance a few weeks before the August 9 presidential elections, said on K24 TV on Wednesday that Kindiki should have gotten the CS for Foreign Affairs.
In his remarks, Kirwa asserted that Kindiki possesses exceptional academic credentials and would have aided the country in matters of international relations. But he said that this doesn't mean that the person nominated for the job isn't qualified for the job.
"I believe the president made smart cabinet selections. Except for two or three names, it is a solid list. These individuals have made Ruto who he is, reached out to the people, and helped the Kenya Kwanza Alliance realize its aim of achieving the presidency.
Most people are unaware that some of these politicians, such as Kindiki, boast really impressive academic degrees. I expected him to lead the Foreign Affairs division, but that does not imply that the nominee in that position is less qualified. Kirwa made his case.
When he announced his cabinet yesterday, Afred Mutua, former governor of Machakos and leader of the Maendeleo Chap Chap party, was named the Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary.
Since his conflict with his former boss, former President Uhuru Kenyatta, Kindiki has been a vociferous ally of the president. He also lost out on being Ruto's running companion by a hair, as Rigathi Gachagua won the post.
