Why Chebukati Is Not A Happy Man Despite Declaring William Ruto As President-elect

Despite his presidential declaration, the Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission (IEBC) chairman Mr. Wafula Chebukati may not be a happy man. Political temperatures across the country are currently high, especially in light of the just-concluded presidential elections with four of the seven commissioners alienating themselves from the declaration of the presidential results.

The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance is also seeking legal and constitutional avenues to overturn Chebukati's decision which saw Deputy President William Ruto being declared the President-elect at the Bomas of Kenya auditorium.

The latest edition of the Kenyan constitution describes the functions of the electoral body under its chairman Mr. Wafula Chebukati. The constitution stipulates that the incumbent head of state His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta has no obligation or authority to withhold the sword of authority from the newly elected leader.

According to the law, he is obliged to hand it over to the president-elect when the time comes unless there is a court case in progress regarding the elections.

If the Supreme court overturns Deputy President William Ruto's presidential victory, Wafula Chebukati will be in great trouble, thus he must present sufficient proof of his election declaration, including the verification of Form 34C, among other things.

It is therefore imperative that the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party file a petition at the apex court to overturn Chebukati's declaration which granted William Ruto victory in the presidential elections.

The moment has come for the Kenyan people to make sure that there is peace and unity throughout the nation to prevent wars that might break out and lead to loss of lives and properties.
