Kisumu West member of parliament John Olago Aluoch is a man who needs no introduction in the political arena as he is a long-serving MP since 2007. In the 12th August house, he is currently serving as a member of two departmental committees namely Justice and Legal Affairs Committee and Procedure and House Rules Committee. In this article, we highlight his journey into politics by looking at his educational background and corporate career.[Photo courtesy]

Academic Qualification

Alouch sat for his 'O' levels at Kisumu Boys High School in 1972 before proceeding to Maseno National School for his 'A' levels education. His exemplary performance enabled him to enrol for a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree at the University of Nairobi and graduated in 1978 and like many law students, he joined Kenya School of Law a year later for a diploma in Law.[Photo courtesy]

Professional Career

Alouch started working in 1979 as a resident magistrate at the Kenya Judiciary and in 1982 he founded his law firm Olago Aluoch & Company Advocates. In the same year, he became the sole proprietor of Kenya Mediation and Arbitration Company in Kisumu, a role he holds up to date. He tossed himself into politics in the year 2007 when he was overwhelmingly elected as Kisumu Town West MP and currently he is serving his third term in the August house. Additionally, he is a life member Kenya Red Cross Society and a member of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry.[Photos courtesy]
