Good news to 280,000 youths who signed up for the 2020 Kazi Mtaani youth programme that was generated by the state as they are yet to finally now receive their dues in full. Treasury CS Ukur Yattani has allocated Ksh 7 Billion to be paid to them.

Tabled before parliament, allocation of the Ksh 7 Billion will settle their outstanding debt as well as expected to scale the programme. It's now confirmed that Ksh 1 billion will be used to settle monies owned to youths who took part in the programme but have not been paid for months.

And the remaining Ksh 6 billion will be allocated and commissioned to new youth workers for the Kazi Mtaani programme as well as fund affordable housing projects that are among the President's agendas.

The programme was introduced in April 2020 to help youths who had lost their jobs due to coronavirus pandemic providing them with earnings for each person of Ksh 560 per day with supervisors Ksh 505, working 8 hours five days a week. The programme currently employs 280,000 youths ages 18 to 35 years in 900 informal settlements across the country.
