Last week, ODM secretary General Edwin Sifuna informed party members that the party had began a vigorous process to identify a favourable presidential Candidate for the 2022 awaited general polls. He instructed the Party's elections board to begin the process immediately.
Today, the party's Electoral board headed by Catherine Mumma has issued strict conditions and requirements to be met by those aspiring ODM's statehouse ticket.
Catherine Mumma Through a Statement to the media, stated that potential aspirants are required to pay a non refundable fee of 1M Kenya shillings to the party's official bank account. They will be then required to present evidence of payment to the headquarters for verification. ODM being the largest party in Kenya, many applications are expected to start coming in at the benefit of the party.
This is the highest amount so far to be demanded by a Political party in exchange for a ticket. This is might be a strategy to hedge out jokers and at the same time increase the Party's income easily.
The candidates will be farther required to present ODM life membership certificate for verification. Subscription to ODM'S life membership is not also that cheap. A certificate of good conduct is also needed as proof for outstanding integrity and character.
In addition, the persons are obliged to satisfy the IEBC Elections Act as provided in the Constitution and meet all requirements for those who wish to run for Parliamentary seats. They should also be Kenyan Citizens and registered voters.
Lately, FORD KENYA's party leader Moses Wetangula alleged that ODM'S process is only a ploy to choose Odinga for the top seat. Why invite applications when the flag bearer is an obvious person?
