Yesterday, the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance camp through the minority leader in the National Assembly Opiyo Wandayi announced that they had canceled the rally that was to take place on Jamhuri Day, December 12th, at Jacaranda Grounds.
Raila Odinga who is the Azimio kingpin had insisted that the 'patriots' would converge at the Jacaranda Grounds, at the same time when President William Ruto will be leading the country for the Jamhuri Day celebrations.
On Wednesday, Raila, Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua, Wiper's Kalonzo Musyoka and Former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa led the Azimio supporters for anti-Ruto rally at Kamukunji Grounds.
According to sources who spoke with the Standard, the Azimio's Jamhuri day rally was called off after Azimio donors sought to know the nature of the fate, in addition to communication from external forces to the Azimio leadership.
"There are concerns holding two parallel fetes would have sent the wrong signal to international partners. We have to strike a delicate balance because we do not also want to portray Kenya as a failed state," said ODM MP.
Others whoever claimed that the move by the Kenya Kwanza Alliance wing to support creation of the Office of the opposition leader as the game changer that made them cancel the rally.
