The recent Bungoma senatorial by-elections were a hotly contested race, with Ford Kenya's Wafula Wakoli emerging as the clear victor. Wakoli garnered a impressive 64,009 votes, easily defeating his closest competitor, Mwambu Mabonga of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), who received 45,682 votes.
Unfortunately for Azimio's Wafula Wamunyinyi, he was unable to replicate the success of his party leader Raila Odinga and came in a distant third place with only 26,382 votes. Despite his best efforts, Wamunyinyi was unable to gain traction in the race and ultimately fell short in his bid for the Senate.
The victory for Ford Kenya's Wakoli marks a significant win for the party, as they continue to build momentum heading into the next
general elections. With a strong showing in Bungoma, the party is poised to make a major push for power in the coming months.
As for Azimio and Wamunyinyi, they will need to regroup and come up with a new strategy if they hope to compete in future elections. For now, however, it is clear that Ford's Wakoli is the man to beat in Bungoma.
