Huduma number is said to be a biometric mass registration system specifically meant for generating a unique number or code, which will be used to acces government services. Many have been having questions of what this card will help them with, but alot of things are included in it, easening the work of job application and carrying alot of documents. It is conducted by National Integrated Identify Management system (NIIMS) which was entrusted by Jubilee government and was therefore given the tender. Kenyans have been having questions about this process, but it was communicated that it was to start March this year.
The process included children who had attained an age of six years, and thereafter, as he or she attains an age of 18 years, it will be withdrawn and be issued another card for adulthood. Details of marital status will be based on his or her mother, which somehow showed discrimination to the fathers in our country, as they felt to have lost a sense of belonging.
Some also claim that this might risk a sense of privacy, as their data will be shared in different platforms. This might not be the case because it will enable government officials be able to serve you efficiently as your information will be found in all offices. After a mass registration of about 37 million Kenyans, now the process of card production is ongoing, and people will be notified once the process is done.
The government advised citizens not to throw away their identity cards, driving licences and other important things, as now this will be used to make sure that the information being included in Huduma Number is correct.
