Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi Delivers Good News To His Residents

My administration is fully committed to support, protect and empower People Living With Disabilities (PLWDs) so that they can continue to be key participants in the achievement of the vision of Making Meru Great.

My government realizes and upholds rights of PLWDs as human rights which are inalienable to all human beings whether they are disabled or abled. We will continue creating policies, structures and systems to ensure PLWDs are supported and involved in the economic development of Meru County as well as themselves.

In my service of the country both as MP and other capacities I have worked with colleagues who held very powerful and senior positions and were able differently such as MPs and Head of Civil Service like Dr Richard Leakey. I want those in Meru to be empowered and supported to become anything they wish in life, because disability is not inability.

Apart from enacting policies to establish and finance the County PLWD Board, my administration has also facilitated formation of the County PLWD Sacco and given out Ksh 10 million as seed capital, and that this money will be doubled in the coming financial year’s budget.

As we marked this year's International Day of People With Disabilities, we issued out cards from National Council for People With Disabilities which will help them to access healthcare services.

We shall also facilitate the issuance of County Government insurance cards to PLWDs in the County so they can access healthcare services free of charge. Some of them also received white cane for the blind. Through the County PLWD Sacco, we have so far disbursed over Ksh 6 million to members across the County.
