The UDA Candidate for the Kirinyaga Governor seat, the incumbent Governor Anne Waiguru is now seeking to have one of her rivals barred from contesting for the seat in the August polls, after alleging that the opponent has is using goons that go around the county destroying her campaign banners.
Waiguru has posted on her Twitter account that she will file a complaint on the same with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for further Action.
“Today I will be lodging an official complaint to the IEBC through my lawyers to bar my opponent from running for electoral office for destroying my campaign material, contrary to the Elections Act 2016 and Elections Conduct,” Waiguru stated.
Waiguru is facing the heat from her rivals including; Charles Kibiru of the Jubilee party, Wangui Ngirici who is vying as an Independent Candidate, Muriithi Kagai of Narc-Kenya and Peter Gitau who is vying through the Safina Party.
Kirinyaga county has a section of youths disrupting rallies, with some having hurled stones at the Azimio la Umoja Presidential Running mate Martha Karua while touring the region.
So far, six suspects have been arrested in connection to the incident, following the Interior PS Karanja Kibicho's order to arrest the goons who are hired by some politicians to disrupt rallies.
