The leaders who chose two representatives from each of the nine Kayas across the Coastal Region met with Ruto at the high-end English Point Marina on evening of Saturday 16th October where he spent his night until Sunday morning.
Youths among other political leaders from the Mijikenda claimed that they were not involved and informed about the meeting.
Former Kisauni MP Anania Mwaboza said it was not right since the elders are the community representatives, and anything they do must be agreed by the whole community.
The Mijikenda Youth Coast Chair Nguma Charo said that the elders breached an agreement of consulting each other before making such kind of moves.
Kaya Kinondo elder Bakari Mnyenze dismissed claims that the meeting did not endorse Omar.
Mwaboza said that the elders were to meet Ruto and not anyone else.
Naomi Cidi, Secretary General of the Umoja Summit Party criticized the meeting stating that the elders acted selfishly.
