Former Gatanga Member of Parliament Hon Peter Kenneth has shed more light on Mt Kenya region's position in the year 2022 confirming what Jubilee Vice-Chairman David Murathe and President Uhuru Kenyatta said about 2022 succession.
According to a report via the Taifa Leo, Peter Kenneth has disclosed that come the year 2022, the Mt Kenya region might fail to produce presidential candidates giving conditions to those aspiring for the country's topmost seat.
Peter Kenneth has said that the Mt Kenya region is rich in votes and will not allow them to be auctioned without any benefit to the community. The former Legislator has said that any leader who wants the Mt Kenya region's support must guarantee the region what he or she will give in return.
"Mount Kenya is not a region to be taken anyhow. We may not have a 2022 presidential candidate but our interests must be protected based on our large numbers. Whoever wants us must guarantee what he will give us and set us apart and then we will support him, ” Peter Kenneth said.
The remarks from Peter Kenneth are similar to past remarks by both President Uhuru Kenyatta and Jubilee Vice-Chairman David Murathe and who have been on the record issuing fresh details about 2022.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has been on record saying that come the year 2022 the country can also decide to rally their support behind a President from other tribes far from the Kikuyu and Kalenjin.
David Murathe also earlier said that "The hegemony of Kikuyus and Kalenjins leading this country is like a game of ping-pong. It is like table tennis. We must break this jinx. Other communities also have a right to ascend to the leadership of this country."
