What you need to know about the judiciary of Kenya

The chief justice of Kenya is the head of the judiciary in Kenya and the president of the supreme court of Kenya.He/she is assisted by the deputy chief justice who is the deputy president of the supreme court.In Kenya there are there are two main courts the superior and surbodinate courts.The Superior courts include the supreme court ,the high court,and the court of appeal.The surbodinate courts include the kadhi courts magistrate court and others.The supreme court is the highest court in the judiciary while the lowest court is the magistrates court.The supreme court hears cases like the presidential elections.The supreme court heard the case of the 2017 general elections.The chief justice is appointed by the president but is selected from the judicial service commission.The judiciary is an arm of the government which is independent.These are some functions of the judiciary:lawmaking,interpretation of laws and application of laws,guardian of the constitution and others.The symbol of the judiciary in Kenya is the lady justice it is an allegorical personification of the moral force in the judicial service.Her attributes are the blindfold,a beam of balance,and a sword.
