According to reports, IEBC has requested the first three rows to be cleared on two sections of terraces to accommodate presidential candidates and their families.
This means that Deputy President William Ruto, Raila Odinga, George Wajackoyah and Waihiga Mwaure will be in Bomas anytime from now.
Wafula Chebukati, chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and returning officer, was due to reveal the official results of Monday's presidential election to determine who will follow Uhuru Kenyatta. Prior to the final announcement, security was heightened at the Bomas of Kenya and other critical locations in Nairobi and throughout the country.
By 7 a.m. on Monday, the Commission had verified and transmitted results from 263 of 291 constituencies. According to commission sources, Chebukati may release the results on Monday if the results verification process complete on time.
Chebukati is on record as saying, "I will only announce the findings in broad daylight and not at night," therefore this option would be strongly contingent on the availability of time.
The lengthy wait for the election results is unprecedented in Kenya's election history, as the Supreme Court ruled in 2017 that the validation process must be completed prior to the final announcement.
