In recent years, there has been a new breed of young parliamentary who are making entry into the national assembly in all East African countries. Uganda boasts of one of the youngest parliamentarians in their national assembly at the young age of 23 years and more interestingly her inspirational story has encouraged many people that if you have a dream you can achieve it.[Photo courtesy]
Hellen Auma Wandera recently took the oath of office to represent Busia constituency after a vigorous door to door campaign using a Boda Boda. Life was not always rosy as she was brought up in a humble background that forced her to take up casual businesses including tilling people’s gardens and vending tomatoes in order to supplement her father's earnings to keep her in school. After joining Kyambogo University she started a fish-selling business hawking deep-fried chicken to her classmates to cater for her accommodation and upkeep. She immediately started her campaigns after her graduation and her campaigns resonated with the locals as one of their own and she was fortunate enough to beat National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate, Sharon Nabwire with a big margin.[Photo courtesy]
We wish Hellen all the best as she starts her journey in politics. Please let us know your thoughts on the comment section below.
