Martha Koome Snubs To Address Parliament After Azimio MPs Protests, MP Uses Hot Air To Dismiss Her

After an uproar by Azimo MPs over her name, Chief Justice Martha Koome missed the Parliamentary induction ceremony where she was scheduled to give the keynote address.

Gladys Shollei, the deputy speaker, indicated that Daniel Musinga, the president of the Court of Appeal, would make the remark in lieu of CJ Koome.

"I'd like to introduce the Chief Justice's representative, His Lordship Justice Daniel Musinga. His subject will be the relationships and interdependence between the legislative branch and the judiciary "Shollei made a remark.

Members of Parliament (MPs) who are linked with Azimio have objected to the Chief Justice Martha Koome's being given time to speak to parliamentarians during their introduction.

On Monday, September 19, Nyando politician Jared Okelo told the media that CJ Koome was off the coalition party's radar because she had failed to protect Kenya's constitution.

Okelo criticized her for using offensive language after the Supreme Court's decision on the Presidential case and claimed that her attendance at the week-long orientation session would just reopen a wound she had previously caused the party.

"We are displeased with Parliament's invitation to the Chief Justice to give a presentation. The sentence she issued was full with insults, which I do not believe we deserved.

"She does not read the law correctly. When she turns up to give that presentation, we will respectfully walk away," he said.

The MPs underlined their leader, Raila Odinga's, desire for swift judicial reforms. Odinga accused the Supreme Court of being dictators who subverted the will of the people in his first public statement following the ruling.

He also revealed plans to depose Koome and the seven-judge bench, calling for a march to the judiciary in an attempt to force them to retire.
