Former MP Amina Abdallah. [Source/Amina] Amina Abdalla served as Nominated Member of Parliament for three consecutive terms from 2003 to 2017.
When she left her position with a German company in 2002 to work as a strategist and chief campaigner for KANU's presidential candidate Uhuru Kenyatta, the soft-spoken politician shot to fame.
As fate would have it, Uhuru, the current head of state, lost to Mwai Kibaki of the NARC but won the election to the Gatundu South MP seat. Amina was elected to the National Assembly during the 10th and 11th Parliaments because he did not leave his chief campaigner out in the political ice.
After she lost to Rashid Bedzimba of the ODM in the Kisauni parliamentary race, her party, The National Alliance (TNA), nominated her to serve her third term in Parliament when Uhuru was elected president in 2013.
Amina said some of her friends were supportive of her new business when she started but others ridiculed for turning into a hawker despite being an MP for 15 years and her top academic qualifications.
She holds a Masters Degree in International Relations from Cornell University in USA and Bachelors Degree in Agriculture and Home Economics from Egerton University.
"You believed that story that someone became a billionaire from hawking chickens." Another one "hiyo Ivy League yako yote na 15 years ya Bunge ulifikiria Kuku?" she quoted some reactions from her friends.
Amina claimed that while she had been an MP for 15 years and had the best academic credentials, some of her friends initially supported her new venture while others made fun of her for turning into a hawker.
She graduated from Egerton University with a bachelor's in agriculture and home economics and has a master's degree in international relations from Cornell University in the United States.
You reportedly thought it was true that someone made a billion dollars selling chickens. "Hiyo Ivy League yako yote na 15 years ya Bunge ulifikiria Kuku?" was another question. She cited some of her friends' comments.
