Elite GSU officers have taken over President-elect Deputy President William Ruto's Sugoi home in Uasin Gishu County.

Dr Ruto was on Monday declared as the country's fifth President by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission chairperson Wafula Chebukati after defeating Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga in a tight race to State House.

Now as the President-in-waiting pending his swearing-in after a likely presidential petition in the Supreme Court, Dr Ruto is under tight security protection.

Besides his new status as the President-elect, Ruto is still the country's Deputy President, who enjoys heavy security presence at his official Karen residence.

But it is his elevation as President-elect that has seen his security further enhanced in line with security arrangements for a holder of the office.

The President and Deputy President in Kenya are traditionally protected by members of the elite GSU unit and Recce Squad.

All his homes, both in Nairobi and upcountry are expected to be under very tight security from the designated GSU and Recce Squad officers.
